“An idea is a notion that takes one beyond experience”- Immanuel Kant.
I photograph the city at night. As I find it. But… if you stood next to me as I was making an image… you would not see the one I’m anticipating. I use the behaviour of streetlights and/or their reflections as the hero of the piece. While a camera’s lens captures light in much the same way the human eye does, at night photographic film reconfigures that light. During long exposures people and vehicles disappear and light builds up on film like sediment, transporting one into a twilight zone. This allows me to concentrate on the little mysteries that lie there... seemingly dormant… within everyday urban objects.
This is my idea.
