Niki Gudex Unforeseen
Janet Clayton Gallery 2015
This self-portrait work is about acceptance of the subtle shifts of life, even in stillness there are constant changes.
It is a meditative process, working through the physical experience of the body and the landscape, exploring what it means to exist and the passing of time.
The work is visceral and intimate but it is not about the body, it is about the experience of the body and what it means to be present. There is a restlessness that grips at many of us as an inability to sit with what is. My work seeks to understand what it means to let go of control and to simply be.
To learn and grow requires us to go from the known into the unknown. This work is about challenging the self to continually cross that divide and to create a sense of place and permanence in a world that is constantly shifting and evolving.
